Every hardwood flooring project is a little different. Preparing your rooms ahead of time helps protect your belongings, gives our crew the space they need, and keeps your project moving efficiently.
Whether you’re having hardwood floors installed, refinished or repaired, use the information below to get ready for a smooth and successful project. Imperial Wood Floors will review any special instructions with you before work begins.
Remove small furniture, rugs, lamps, decorations, fragile belongings and valuables from the rooms where work will take place. Clear nearby shelves and surfaces where appropriate.
If you’re having floors sanded or refinished, consider removing delicate wall decorations in adjacent areas as an extra precaution.
Imperial Wood Floors prefers that furniture be removed from work areas before the scheduled start date. If a large item needs assistance, discuss it with Imperial Wood Floors before the project begins. Keep agreed access routes available for the crew and equipment, including entryways, hallways and nearby parking.
Pets can remain in the home when appropriate, but sanding and equipment can be noisy. For their comfort and safety, plan to keep pets and children away from active work areas. Depending on the products being used, temporary arrangements outside the home may be advisable.
Imperial Wood Floors uses professional HEPA vacuum equipment and barriers to contain sanding dust. Our existing published information describes approximately 90% dust containment, but no sanding process is completely dust-free.
You can also expect some noise during certain parts of the project. Project-specific access, ventilation and care instructions will be explained before work begins.

Furniture and area rugs may have different waiting periods. Ask Imperial Wood Floors when each can safely return, and follow the instructions for the particular finish used on your floor.
Do not change your heating, cooling or ventilation settings without project-specific guidance. Appropriate temperature, humidity, airflow and ventilation depend on the work and products being used.
